Gravenhurst Centennial Centre open as warming centre

The Town of Gravenhurst wants to keep its vulnerable citizens safe and warm this weekend.

With an extreme cold alert in place, the town has opened the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre to the public as a warming centre during normal hours of operation.

“We want our residents to know that they have a warm, safe place to go to escape from the cold with the temperature forecast,” said Todd Clapp, Gravenhurst community emergency management coordinator.  “With temperatures in the low minus twenties without considering the wind chill expected through the weekend, it’s important to regularly monitor those people that are at the greatest risk, including children and seniors. It’s also advised to keep pets indoors.  If you must venture outside remember to dress in layers and to cover exposed skin, keep hydrated and take regular breaks in a warm place.”

The Centennial Centre is open on Saturday from 8:00am to 7:00pm, Sunday 8:00am to 10:00pm, and Monday from 8:00am to 10:00pm.
