Resort development off District’s plan

There is a big change to the District of Muskoka’s latest official plan.

Despite heavy interest in controlling the scope and size of development at the Resort Village of Minett the District has now determined that “site-specific policies do not form part of OPA 47  (the Muskoka Official Plan Review) and the existing policies will be carried forward unchanged as an interim step until they can be further reviewed.”

A district staff report also stated that “Despite continued discussions with interested stakeholders and the resort industry, no consensus has arisen regarding an appropriate path forward for policies governing general resort development.”

Previous versions of the draft included options for resort residential development, but there appeared to be ongoing concerns about an increase to the density of lakefront development by residents.
