Protect your outdoor vehicles this season from potential thieves: OPP

The OPP is warning recreational vehicle owners to protect their equipment this winter.

Police say snowmobiles and ATVs need to be either locked up or locked down with indoor storage, padlocks, cables and chains. Officials say these security measures aren’t perfect, but potential thieves will sometimes move on.

If you’re leaving a vehicle outside, make sure it’s in a well-lit area as well. Homeowners could also consider outdoor motion-sensor lighting, which can surprise would-be thieves and scare them off quickly.

Over the weekend, a snowmobile owned by LivOutside in Bracebridge was stolen from its storage at the Riverside Bike Park. Anyone with details on this crime is asked to call the OPP or Crime Stoppers.
