Motion Made to Look for Alternative to Docking By-law

An alternative to creating a dock time limit by-law is being examined by the Town of Gravenhurst’s Committee of the Whole.

The Town Council had heard the request earlier this summer to limit the amount of time people could stay docked on the municipal dock at Kahshe Lake. Residents of the water access only lake southeast of the town said people were staying tied up for whole weekends and work barges were also spending days at a time taking up spots.

In an item for the upcoming Committee of the Whole meeting on September 18th, there is a motion to the administration to bring back a report regarding enforcement alternatives to a formal by-law to help deal with the situation.

Some suggestions included creating signs making boaters aware of time limits as a common courtesy.

Earlier this summer it was determined that the town does not have the resources on the by-law enforcement side to properly deal with issues at the dock.
