Sharkwater director turning his cameras on a Bala Falls

It’s official. The Bala Falls controversy is headed for the big screen. A documentary by award winning film maker Rob Stewart is being shot about the fight to save the Bala falls from a hydro plant the
majority of Bala residents oppose. The announcement came yesterday via the tribute.ca website. Stewart is quoted as saying he and his friends grew up playing at the falls and that he couldn’t imagine Muskoka without them. He also says a power plant there would degrade the heritage site, could kill innumerable fish and aquatic species, and affect Bala’s economy by degrading the town’s most beloved tourist destination. Stewart is the director of such critically acclaimed films as Sharkwater and Revolution.
