SMDHU says Enterovirus D68 is similar to the common cold

The Enterovirus D68 has been confirmed in Canada. Seven were confirmed in BC on Tuesday. Associate Medical Officer of Health with the Simcoe-Muskoka District Heath Unit Dr. Colin Lee says people most vulnerable are children who have respiratory issues like asthma.

Enterovirus is very similar to the common cold. Lee says there isn’t a specific antibiotic for this virus. Lee says if you feel symptoms, drink lots of fluids.

There hasn’t been any confirmed cases in Ontario yet. However, Lee say the province has only started testing for the virus last week.
