Habitat OGN chooses young family for home build in Almaguin

A young South Almaguin family is getting a leg up in life from Habitat for Humanity.

The Ontario Gateway North branch of the non-profit organization picked Meghan McIntyre, Connor Hesse and their three-year-old son Myles as the recipients of a three-bedroom home being built in Perry Township. McIntyre says they’re thankful for the opportunity and all the work the volunteers have put in to help them start this new chapter of their lives.

Perry Township Mayor Norm Hofstetter, who is also volunteering time on the build, says this type of project is something that really rallies the community and brings everyone together for a good cause. He says they’re happy to welcome this young family to the community.

As part of the Habitat for Humanity process, future homeowners need to put in 500 hours of volunteer work to be approved for an interest-free mortgage on the property.
