Local schools get money for projects that demonstrate parent-child connection

A few local schools are getting some money to help with projects that demonstrate a strong connection between parents and their child’s education. Trillium Lakeland District School Board (TLDSB) Director of Education Larry Hope says there’s a link between parent engagement and how successful a child is in school. He says many of the projects that were given money provide a strong link between parent and child whether they are at home or in school. Over $13,000 was given out to schools in Muskoka, Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes. In Muskoka, Gravenhurst Public School was given $1,000 for their Interactive Science Nights for Parents, while  Pine Glen Public School got $1,000 for their Parent Educational Outreach Event. Huntsville Public got $1,000 for its Get Active project and Macaulay Public School’s  Meet You at Macaulay project received $1000 as well.
