MAHC changes parking system and rates at South Memorial Hospital

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare is aligning the parking systems and rates at both hospital sites in Huntsville and Bracebridge. A rate change to public parking will take effect this month. The biggest change will be for South Muskoka Memorial Hospital, where it will change from a flat fee to a time-based system. You will take a stub when you get into the parking lot and keep it with you until you have to leave. There will be a pay-on-foot station inside the hospital lobby where you can pay for your ticket by cash or credit.

Both sites will see changes to their parking rates. It’s going to cost you $3 for the first half-hour at both sites and $2 for each subsequent half hour. It would cost $7 max per visit, $30 per week or $50 per month. You can also get a six-month parking permit for $240.

CEO Natalie Bubela says as MAHC continues to operate with reduced funding under Health System Funding Reform, MAHC is expected to look at all opportunities to reduce operating costs and increase revenue. She says parking is one of very few revenue-generating activities available to hospitals. Bubela also says parking revenue supports direct patient care, and helps offset the cost of parking lot maintenance.

MAHC says the new rate is comparable with what other hospitals in the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN are charging.
