Snow squall watch changed to warning as snow intensifies

Environment Canada is upgrading its weather warning for parts of Muskoka. Today’s earlier snow squall watch has been upgraded to a warning for Huntsville and Baysville. The weather service says the radar shows the snow is slowly intensifying, and squalls are expected to be fairly strong overnight. We could be getting up to 15 centimetres by the morning.

Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Port Carling and Port Severn are still under a snow squall watch. Environment Canada says the activity will get stronger tonight before moving south.

Snow squalls can cause the weather to change very quickly; it can go from a clear sky to heavy snow within a few kilometres.

A snow squall warning is issued when bands of snow form that bring intense accumulating snow or near zero visibility. A watch is issued when the snow bands could bring accumulating snow or near zero visibility.
