Public consultation on the future of Fairvern Nursing home in Huntsville tomorrow

The future of Huntsville’s Fairvern Nursing Home is still up in the air. The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is holding a public consultation tomorrow, to go over the proposal to revitalize the home. Fairvern has applied to the ministry for approval to add 20 beds to its current 76, and will need the green light before it moves ahead with redevelopment plans.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller, the District of Muskoka and the Town of Huntsville have all openly supported the initiative from the non-profit nursing home. Miller spoke in the Legislature last week, saying it’s important the proposal is accepted as the waiting list has almost 150 names on it and this will help the home stay open in the future. If the ministry gives the okay, the district is going to kick in $10 million for the revitalization, and Huntsville has offered a piece of land for a new facility to be built on.

The ministry and the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network will be at tomorrow’s meeting, and the public is encouraged to attend. It’s happening at 1:00 at the Huntsville Public Library, in the Friends Multi-Purpose Room.
