St. George’s Falkenburg member has plans to memorialize his former church

A member of one of Bracebridge’s oldest families wants to build a memorial for his former church.

In October, the Anglican Diocese of Ontario closed the doors for the last time at St. George’s Church in Falkenburg. In memory of the church and its connection to his family, David Moore wants to create a memorial on the site of his family’s cemetery on Moore Road. Moore says the diocese has agreed to give him the old church bell and some other pieces to add to the design.

Since the church only closed a month ago this memorial is in the very early planning stages. The cemetery land is owned by Bracebridge, so Moore has submitted his application to the town and is waiting for approval.

The congregation of 16 was celebrating the 141st anniversary of St. George’s Falkenburg Church this year.
