Crime calls for OPP in Muskoka are slowly going down

OPP calls for service are down across Muskoka.

Police officials have released the numbers for crime calls between 2013 and 2016 for the district. All calls related to drugs, assaults, traffic and property damage have steadily dropped over the four-year period.

The majority of calls are related to property crimes, which include arson, breaking and entering, theft and fraud. There were just over 1,400 calls for these types of crimes in 2016, which is down by 500 from 2013.

The numbers are still fairly high for calls related to false alarms and 9-1-1 hang-ups. OPP officers in Muskoka were called to just over 2,800 calls related to these incidents. This is down by about 2,000 since 2013.

Traffic-related crimes like impaired driving and crashes also dropped in Muskoka by about 300 to just over 2,100 calls. Overall, there were 12,314 calls to the OPP in Muskoka, which is 3.6 per cent of all OPP service calls in the province in 2016.
