Bala Falls project no longer threatened by possible permit suspension

A vibration issue at Bala Falls is no longer a concern for the district.

On Monday, District CAO Michael Duben told council he would be forced to suspend the road access permit for Swift River Energy at its hydroelectric dam construction site in Bala. This was because district officials believed there might be an issue with the amount of vibration being caused by blasting and other work at the site. Duben told council there was no immediate concern about the vibration causing damage to the nearby bridge, but the issue needed to be addressed before that happened.

Nhung Nguyen with Swift River Energy reports to the MyMuskokaNow newsroom that the issue has been resolved and the permits have not been suspended. She says Swift River is making every effort to work with all levels of government while construction is ongoing. The construction is expected to run until 2019.
