District officials apologize for sewage back up in Huntsville, investigate cause

District officials are trying to figure out what caused sewage back up in Huntsville.

In late October, a wastewater control system failed and caused sewage to flood homes and businesses along Highway 60. Officials say the pump turned itself off, but none of the alarms went off to let workers know there was an issue. The district has now put safeguards in place to fix the issue for now and prevent it from happening in the near future. Officials have also hired a consultant to investigate how the system failed in the first place.

The district is apologizing to the affected property owners and an insurance adjuster is reviewing all the damage claims. Officials say property owners across the district should consider installing backwater valves as an extra form of protection against an issue like this.
