New golf tournament to help local female athletes pursue their dreams

Female athletes in Muskoka are getting a boost from a new golf tournament. Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville is hosting the Cottage Country Cup on August 20th and 21st, with the proceeds going into Dara’s Fund. The charity helps female athletes who compete in any sport above the local level pay for various expenses, like coaching fees, travel expenses and equipment.

Ryan Barry, Deerhurst Highlands Head Professional, says the resort wanted to create a new golf tournament in Muskoka, while giving back to the community.

He says Dara’s Fund was a perfect fit for Deerhurst.

Barry says 19-year-old Brooke Henderson is doing very well on the LGPA Tour, and this could be a chance for the next rising golf star to come from Muskoka.

Around 50 players are signed up for the Cottage Country Cup, and there are still spots available. Teams and sponsors are welcome, and the deadline to register is Friday.
