Muskoka Canada 150 events get funding through the Muskoka Community Foundation

A Muskoka fund is helping bring more national pride to the district during Canada’s 150th.

Starting last year, the Muskoka Community Foundation kicked off a special project to partner the Smart and Caring Muskoka Fund with the Canada 150th Grant to give out over $60,000.

The Smart and Caring Fund usually goes to organizations that are helping make a difference in the Muskoka community.

This year, Program Director Lynn DeCaro says they wanted to focus on the 150 celebrations.

The foundation selected 16 Canada 150 events and related initiatives as recipients this year.

DeCaro says going through all the applications was not an easy process.

Four of the organizations were selected for events that ran at the end of last year and the remaining 12 were given funding in May.

This is the third year the Muskoka Community Foundation has handed out donations through the Smart and Caring Fund and the organization is also celebrating its 10th anniversary.
