Bethune Bistro forced to close because of unresolved fire code violations

Fire code violations have forced a Gravenhurst restaurant to close.

A Bracebridge Superior Court judge ordered the closure of Bethune Bistro.

The building was inspected in 2014 by the Gravenhurst Fire Department and multiple Ontario Fire Code violations were found by officials.

The business was sold after that, but Fire Chief Larry Brassard says the new owner didn’t make the necessary repairs to deal with these violations.

The owner was charged last fall, but still didn’t follow through with fixing the issues.

A recent court order gave the owner one last chance to have the building fixed by June 19th, but Brassard says the repairs were not done.

He says the building will stay closed until the owner makes the repairs needed to get it back up to code.
