New survey shows public pool users aren’t showering before swimming

Muskokans are disagreeing with a new survey that claims most public pool users don’t shower before diving in. The survey was done by the Water Quality and Health Council in the United States, and says over half of adults never, or rarely, shower before getting in the water.

It also claims one in four Americans are swimming after having gastrointestinal issues. Health officials say that means they could have a parasite called cryptosporidium, which can make you sick if swallowed with pool water. Chlorine doesn’t kill the parasite, and it can stay alive for up to 10 days.

Moose FM went to the streets to find out what people think about showering before swimming.

Health officials say you should shower with soap before getting into the water to make sure all bacteria has been killed and washed away.
