Police are targeting unsafe transport trucks on Muskoka roads

Transport trucks are the target of a specialized campaign in Muskoka.
The OPP’s annual Operation Corridor runs today and tomorrow and officers are looking for safety issues with semi-trucks on Muskoka highways.
Central Region OPP Acting Sergeant Mark Kinney says with one in five fatal crashes in Ontario involving a transport truck, this campaign is a necessity.
Kinney says officers will be randomly checking transport trucks for things like broken hitches, unsecured loads and faulty brakes.
He says there have been over 300 deaths on Ontario highways between 2012 and 2016 that involved transport trucks.
A more recent OPP report also shows in the last three years there were 344 collisions caused by faulty equipment on transport trucks, six of which were fatal.
