Huntsville Public School undertaking an expensive project to create an accessible playground

Huntsville Public School is raising some money so all students can use the playground. The current playground has barriers around it, which means not all kids and parents can get to it.

Teacher with HPS, Emily Fitzgerald says the school wants to build one that is accessible for everyone, which means ramps and rubberized surfaces. She says the goal is to have a space where all of the kids can play and be physically active.

Fitzgerald says it’s going to cost around $350,000 to build an accessible playground. She says fundraising is underway, which includes an upcoming concert.

The parent’s council is going to donate some cash, and the school is also sending out various grant applications. On top of that, the Trillium Lakelands District School Board has promised to match all donations.

Tickets for the Funraiser Concert are $35, and can be bought at Huntsville Public School. If you can’t make the concert but still want to help out, a cheque can be written to the Trillium Lakelands District School Board. It can be dropped off or mailed to Huntsville Public School at 16 Caroline St. W. Hunstville, ON, P1H 2B2.
