Muskoka students take a trip to Vimy Ridge for a first-hand look at Canadian history

Students from Muskoka are crossing the ocean to uncover a century-old piece of Canadian history.
Earlier today, 17 students from St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School flew to France to visit the site of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
Teacher Art Forester says the students will have a chance to be a part of the 100-year memorial of this iconic Canadian battle.
He says this experience is also a learning opportunity for students to understand how the Canadian soldiers were able to win this battle against Germany in World War I.
The students will be joined by thousands of others from schools across Canada that are making the same journey.
A memorial ceremony will be held on Sunday at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France where over 3,500 Canadian soldiers were killed and 7,000 were wounded during this battle.
