Affordable housing push continues in Huntsville

Huntsville’s push for an affordable housing build continues. Council donated land at Sabrina Park Drive earlier this month, in the hopes that it would kick-start construction.

Since then, a Request for Proposal has been sent out, to see if there are any companies who would be interested in building on the land. Mayor Scott Aitchison says they’re looking for something unique.

There are about 300 Huntsville residents who are on the Muskoka social housing waitlist, and Aitchison says he hopes this donated land will help lower that number. He says around 100 units could fit on the land, which could be a mix of affordable housing prices and market value prices.

The RFP closes at the end of the month, and Aitchison says the timeline is tight because the town wants to see construction get underway as soon as possible.
