Utterson man turns $5 into $100K with a scratch ticket

An Utterson man is $100,000 richer thanks to a scratch ticket. Stephen Devitt won the top prize with an Instant Boom Multiplier ticket, which he bought in Port Sydney for five bucks.

Devitt says he scratched the ticket in his car after buying it, and sat there in disbelief trying to figure out if it was real. He then went back into the store where the clerk scanned his ticket. She started to scream and shout, and Devitt says he just stood there shaking. The store owner came over see what was happening, and the two had a little celebration in the moment.

His first call was to his wife of 32 years, who said “don’t mess with me!” when he told her the news.

Devitt says in all of the years he’s been married, he and his wife have never left Ontario. So now, they’re planning a trip. Devitt says he sees themselves somewhere hot, with a cold drink, and maybe even a fishing rod.

Devitt says winning the lottery is a big boost, an energizer, and it takes the pressure off.
