Speed limit reduction at fatal intersection in Bracebridge pending Minister approval

The Ministry of Transportation is waiting on final approval to change the speed limit on a dangerous stretch of road on Highway 118 in Bracebridge.
Following discussions back and forth between the MTO and the Town of Bracebridge, the government organization has informed the town it  is moving forward with the proposal to lower the speed limit at the intersection of Highway 118, the Highway 11 off ramp and South Muskoka Falls Road.
Currently, the speed limit heading east changes from 60 km/h to 80 km/h just before the Highway 11 overpass.
The MTO wants to extend the 60 km/h speed limit beyond the overpass and just over 300 metres east of the intersection.
The town has made a few requests that the MTO consider extending the 60 km/h speed limit to the intersection of Morrow Drive and Gravenhurst Parkway.
Discussions have been ongoing about the dangers of this intersection, which has been the site of at least two deaths and numerous collisions.
Originally, the town suggested a set of four-way lights or even rumble strips to be installed to help bring down the amount of collisions at this intersection.
However, those suggestions were shot down MTO officials.
This proposed change to the speed limit is waiting on approval from the Minister of Transportation.
