OPP concerned heading into Victoria Day Long Weekend

 

The OPP is concerned heading into the Victoria Day Long Weekend. Twenty people died in off road vehicle incidents in OPP jurisdictions last year, compared to 12 in 2012 and 17 in 2010.  Of the 2013 fatalities, 13 were due to lack of helmet use and 9 involved alcohol. Police are asking you to urge your loved ones to wear a helmet and drive sober. They are also concerned with motorcycle deaths which are still on the rise. Twenty-eight motorcyclists died in 2013, compared to 26 in 2012 and 21 in 2011.  Impaired, aggressive and distracted driving are all common contributing factors in motorcycle crashes.
