Local woman gives Huntsville's tree planting practices a thumbs down

Huntsville is being criticized for their tree planting practices. Peggy Peterson came before council yesterday, asking for a change in how trees are planted. Peterson says planting trees too deeply is one of the major reasons trees are dying in town.

Peterson says it allows moisture to accumulate around the bark causing rot. Peterson thinks over mulching is a second major determent to the health of our local trees.

Peterson also believes the District’s tree planting guide brochure is incorrect and will be speaking with District council in future. Huntsville Mayor Claude Doughty has asked staff to come back at next council meeting with a report on the issue of their planting practices.
