SaveTheBalaFalls.com has been ordered to pay just over $29,000 in legal fees to the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
Justice T.M. Wood made the ruling on Tuesday, following the website group’s attempt to put a stop to the township leasing or selling land to Swift River Energy Limited.
The website group’s application for an injunction was dismissed after a one-day hearing in December.
Wood states in his decision that several issues originally brought up by SaveTheBalaFalls.com were abandoned before the hearing.
The group had also stated that the litigation was of public interest and they should be shielded from awarding legal costs to the township.
Wood says the specific issues in this case were technical in nature and therefore not of interest to the public.
