Bracebridge United Church surpasses goal in Syrian refugee fundraiser

Muskoka may soon be welcoming a few Syrian refugee families into its various communities this summer.

The Bracebridge United Church is one of a few groups that have been working hard to raise funds and bring one of these refugee families to the town.

The group now has just over $36,000, which will go towards helping their family settle in for the first year.

Minister Nancy Knox says once the family moves to Bracebridge, the group will be very hands-on.

Knox says their group is registered with Anglican United Refugee Alliance, which will help them with the process of applying for the family they will be supporting.

She says the next step is getting all police record checks completed and then they will be receiving training and orientation through AURA.

Knox says they hope to have a family arrive this summer.
