Winter Village opening postponed due to poor ice conditions

The new skate trail in Memorial Park is not ready to use as officials say the ice is not safe.

Bracebridge Councillors Chris Wilson and Don Smith joined town staff to check the condition of the ice.

The decision was made to postpone the grand opening from this weekend to Saturday, January 23rd.

Wilson says the ice is just too rough to be safe for skaters.

Weather is expected to work against the efforts of volunteers as well with rain in the forecast for tonight.

Wilson says they are confident the ice should be smooth and ready by next Saturday.

Town staff would like to remind residents that Annie Williams outdoor rink is still open for use this weekend.
