Future of Huntsville’s 70.3 Ironman in Discussion for 2017

The Mayor of Huntsville is hoping TriMuskoka will take the responsibilities for the 2017 70.3 Ironman.

The town announced they will host this summer’s half Ironman after cancelling the next two full Ironmans in Huntsville. Mayor Scott Aitchison says negotiations with TriMuskoka have not started.

Former President of TriMuskoka Rich Trenholm says it would be very hard for the not-for-profit organization to take over the event on this short notice.

Trenholm believes the organization is financially incapable of putting together such an event.

Even though money may play a large factor for the organization, the mayor believes there is more to it.

The mayor says talks with TriMuskoka will begin soon. Aitchison hopes TriMuskoka will take over after this summer, but they don’t have to.

A public meeting will be held on Thursday, January 21st at 6:00pm to get input on what types of events the community would like to see in town.
