Bracebridge District Councillor Scott Young not running for re-election

A four-term District Councillor for Bracebridge says he’s not going to run for re-election. Young says it’s been a great privilege to represent Muskoka and Bracebridge citizens.

“I have always enjoyed it and I am honoured to have worked with so many fine community leaders over the years,” he added.

First elected in 2000, he was re-elected in 2003, 2006 and 2010. Young currently serves as Deputy District Chair, and is the past chair of Muskoka Planning and Economic Development and Bracebridge Public Works, and a former member of the Simcoe-Muskoka Board of Health.

“Muskoka has a great quality of life,” says Young. “My focus has been to balance economic goals with environmental needs like water quality, forests, parks, trails and sidewalks. On the economic side, I am very proud of Council’s leadership establishing Muskoka Campus in Bracebridge.”

Young is one of the founding members of the Muskoka Watershed Council, and currently serves on that Council’s executive committee. He also spent a decade working with the Muskoka Trails Council, chaired the Peake Fields Ball Park Advisory Committee, and currently heads up the Bracebridge Active Transportation Committee.

Proud of his public service, he says he’ll continue to be an active councillor for the balance of the term. “Aside from that, I’m actively exploring opportunities and weighing options,” he said.
