Construction crew cutting trees near Bala Falls

A Muskoka Lakes councilor is reporting unknown construction company is cutting trees near Bala Falls.
The tree cutting began this morning, and according to Councilor Sandy Currie, it’s on Ministry of Natural Resources land which is directly adjacent to the land of the proposed hydroelectric dam.
Currie also says he saw a representative from Swift River Energy at the site this morning, but he doesn’t know if it is related to the construction.
Swift River Energy is the company that is attempting to lease the land on Bala Falls to build a hydroelectric dam.
The lease on that land will be the subject of a court hearing between the municipality and the group Save The Bala Falls.
Moose FM is waiting to hear back from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
