The Ministry of Natural Resources is doing what they can to prevent flooding. Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Chief Steve Hernen says the MNR has purposely dropped some of our water levels in anticipation for rain or snow melt. Hernen says levels won’t be lowered any further for a few reasons.
Low water levels seems like a good thing when it comes to flood prevention. But, Hernen says although levels are low, the potential for flooding still exists.
Hernen also says a lot of our head water comes from the river at Algonquin Park.
Hernen met with the MNR and other municipal officials, Monday, to get an update on flood preparedness. He says as long as we continue to get warm temps during the day and cooler temps at night, there’s less of a risk for flooding, but residents to prepare just in case.
