The death of a former school teacher in Kearney has the community still reeling in disbelief. Early Sunday morning, Almaguin Highlands OPP got a call from Dolores White. White was later taken to hospital where she died. Police are calling the death suspicious and Kearney’s mayor Paul Tomlinson says this as greatly affected residents.

Police released little details of the case, other than warning the public to be aware of their personal safety.

Kearney lost an historical figure. White was one of a few teachers in Ontario who taught in a one-room school house in town back in the 1960s and early 70s.

Tomlinson says he can’t believe this happened to an avid member of the community.

A post mortem was scheduled yesterday to find out the cause of death. White was 85-years-old. Police continue to investigate. If you have any information you think might be useful, call the Almaguin Highlands detachment or Crime Stoppers.
