Strategies are in the works to stop violence against aboriginal women

Canada has to do more to protect Aboriginal women and girls against violence in their communities. That from Betty Ann Lavallee, who is the national chief of the Congress of Aborignial Peoples. After the release of a Parliamentary Committee report on missing, murdered and abused indigenous women, Lavallee met with the Assembly of First Nations, the National Association of Friendship Centres and other groups to discuss strategies to stop the violence. Lavallee says there needs to be a national inquiry to fully understand why violence against aboriginal women and girls has happened in the past and why it continues today.
