Two additional long-term care beds will be added to the Fairvern redevelopment project, increasing the home’s capacity from 160 to 162.
According to officials, the two additional beds, approved by the Ministry of Long-Term Care through the District of Muskoka, will help address the growing need for long-term care services in Muskoka.
“We are pleased to receive approval for these additional beds,” said District Chair, Jeff Lehman. “Every new bed means more Muskoka residents can get the care they need closer to home and closer to loved ones. It also means we are delivering additional value for the taxpayer in this new, leading-edge home.”
The project is currently under construction and aims to build a new long-term care home on a 7.32-acre site on the east side of Centre Street North, between West Road and Hanes Road in Huntsville, replacing the existing aging facility at 14 Mill Street.
Officials said the project, which is expected to be completed in late 2026, will feature a home-like design with familiar spaces and routines, along with a care approach focused on independence, dignity, and personal choice.
The redevelopment will also include modern infection prevention and control features, improved accessibility, sustainable design elements, and spaces that support connections among residents, families, staff, volunteers, and the broader community.
Once completed, district officials said the new Fairvern home will operate under the MuskokaCare model, a made-in-Muskoka approach to dementia care that focuses on relationships, purpose, belonging, and helping people live meaningful lives every day.
