The fire danger rating across Muskoka has increased to high.
The Muskoka Association of Fire Chiefs announced the updated rating on June 30, stating that it would come into effect July 2.
Under a high rating, daytime burning is prohibited, fireworks are prohibited and all fire permits are suspended.
Fire officials say due to the ongoing extreme heat forest floor materials, including leaves, deadfall and grass, have become dry enough to ignite easily, allowing even a small ignition source to quickly start and spread.
Officials say small, confined fires are permitted between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., however, they are discouraged.
