A familiar name in the local business community has officially joined the race to become Huntsville’s next mayor.
Lifelong resident and business owner Dan Caswell filed his nomination on May 1, the first day of the nomination period for the upcoming municipal election. Caswell said he welcomes a competitive campaign and that his decision to run is rooted in a deep connection to the community.
“When you’ve lived in Huntsville most of your life, you care about where it’s headed,” he said. “I want to make sure that Huntsville can be the best place to work, raise your family, and enjoy life.”
If elected, Caswell said he plans to focus on the town’s financial direction while prioritizing core services including fire, emergency response, and policing. He also points to community safety, roads, trails, and waterfront access as key areas needing renewed attention.
Caswell’s ties to Huntsville span generations. His grandparents moved to the area from Kirkland Lake in 1945, and his family has remained rooted in the community ever since. His mother, Leslie Caswell, served three terms on Huntsville council. He and his wife Pam have also chosen to raise their family in Huntsville.
Throughout his career, Caswell has worked in construction and co-owned Hutcheson, Reynolds and Caswell Insurance Brokers, supporting clients across Huntsville and surrounding communities. He has also served on town committees, coached minor sports, and contributed to economic development through his involvement with Muskoka Futures.
“It wasn’t until I really looked back on my experience that I realized I’ve been working toward something like this for a long time,” Caswell says. “I want to take what I’ve learned to keep Huntsville thriving.”
