The Huntsville Town Hall is set to light up red for Kawasaki Disease (KD) Canada Awareness Day on Jan. 26.
Town officials said the initiative aims to raise public awareness for the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children, emphasizing that early detection is key to saving lives.
“Knowing the symptoms of KD allows parents to bring it into the conversation with primary care providers sooner and will help avoid delayed and missed diagnoses,” said Kawasaki Disease Canada officials.
Representatives from the organization said key symptoms of Kawasaki Disease include a fever exceeding 38.3ºC lasting more than four days, along with joint pain, lethargy, diarrhea, and peeling skin on the hands or feet.
Under the theme ‘Lights On, Hearts Strong,’ officials said the event looks to honour the resilience and spirit of children and families living with the disease.
