Snow squalls and extreme cold temperatures are expected to continue until the morning of Jan. 23.
Environment Canada warns that another 30 to 40 cm of snow is expected between Jan. 22 and the morning of Jan. 23.
Town officials said residents should prepare for significant accumulation, reduced visibility and hazardous travel conditions throughout the Muskoka region.
“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve,” said town officials.
To prepare for winter emergencies, the Town advises drivers to carry a vehicle safety kit that includes a flashlight with extra batteries, jumper cables, a device charger, water, non-perishable food, a first-aid kit, blankets, and warm clothes.
Environment Canada is also warning that extremely cold temperatures are expected across Muskoka this weekend, with wind chills expected to reach -31°C overnight.
The Town is urging residents to take proactive safety measures during this period of extreme cold, dress in layers, and take a moment to check on vulnerable community members.
According to the town, winter roads and sidewalk maintenance will continue their regular operations. Bracebridge Transit will continue to operate, but delays are expected.
