YWCA Muskoka has opened its nominations for its 20th Women of Distinction Awards Gala.
“A Woman of Distinction is someone who has contributed to her community and improved the lives of people in Muskoka,” said Laura Sundy, Co-Chair of the event and YWCA’s Director of Community Engagement. “We encourage everyone to nominate the women in their lives who have been a catalyst for change and who deserve to be celebrated and recognized.”
This year, there are seven categories, including one new category for Skilled Trades. The categories are the following:
- Young Woman of Distinction – recognizes women aged 30 or under who are making significant contributions to their schools, communities, or workplaces.
- Arts, Culture, and Creativity – honours women who enrich the community through their dedicated contributions to the arts and the cultural fabric of Muskoka.
- Health, Sports, and Wellness – recognizes women who dedicate their efforts to enhancing the well-being of individuals and the broader Muskoka community.
- Tansforming Community – recognizes women who are driving positive change and advocating for initiatives that improve the quality of life and strengthen our community.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship – honours women who have achieved excellence in business, trades, or professional roles across the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
- Skilled Trades – recognizes women who excel in the skilled trades and whose craftsmanship, dedication, and expertise set a high standard in their field.
- Lifetime Achievement – recognizes women aged 55 or older who have dedicated their lives to making a significant, lasting difference in the quality of life within their communities.
According to officials, nominations for this year’s awards close on Feb. 12. Recipients will be announced in March during the week of International Women’s Day, followed by a formal presentation at the Gala on April 2, 2026, hosted at Deerhurst Resort.
The Gala will also serve as a fundraiser for the local organization. Officials said all funds collected through this event will support programs and services for women and their families, specifically targeting gender-based violence, housing stability, childcare, and economic resilience.
