Local OPSEU Members take part in ‘Day of Action’

OPSEU Members who work at Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) in Bracebridge are hoping to ‘end the nightmare’ after Kathleen Wynne and the provincial government spent nearly $250-million on a faulty computer program. Yesterday, OPSEU Members across the province took to the information picket lines to raise awareness about SAMS – a new social assistance computer system. Lisa Egan, OPSEU Region 3 Mobilizer in Barrie says since the installation of SAMS, there have been numerous headaches for OPSEU Members and disability recipients…

Egan says the situation was completely avoidable. She says frontline staff warned the government for months prior to the launch of SAMS. She also adds that yesterday’s ‘Day of Action’ was part of the bargaining process with the provincial government. In December, 90 percent of OPSEU Members agreed they would be in favour of a strike.
