OPP reminds residents to make safety a priority this Halloween

The OPP are reminding residents across our area to stay safe this Halloween.

Officials are advising drivers to stay alert for trick-or-treaters who may be distracted while collecting candy, stay focused on the road, and watch the sidewalks carefully.

They encourage parents to have their children wear makeup instead of masks if possible to help ensure costumes don’t block vision.

According to police, younger kids should always be under adult supervision, even in groups.

They remind children to travel in groups or with adults, carry flashlights, wear reflective clothing, and stick to familiar, well-lit areas.

If driving between neighborhoods, they say to make sure everyone is wearing their seatbelt.

Police are also advising trick-or-treaters of the importance of crossing streets at crosswalks or intersections and waiting until treats are checked by an adult before snacking.

Officers say they will be out in their “usual costumes” to ensure everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.
