Structure fire destroys home on Delbrooke Road in Lake of Bays

A structure fire destroyed one house on Delbrooke Road in Lake of Bays on Oct. 7.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays fire officials said 30 firefighters from Station 2 in Port Cunnington, Station 3 in Hillside, Station 4 in Baysville, and Station 1 in Huntsville responded around 4:20 a.m.

At the same time, fire officials with the Algonquin Highlands Fire Services were requested to assist with fire suppression and overhaul.

Upon arrival, crews found the house and a parked vehicle fully engulfed, with flames extending through the roof and fire spreading uphill along the forest floor toward two nearby homes.

Officials said the homeowner and their pet dog were safely evacuated without injury, thanks to working smoke alarms that activated and provided an early warning.

According to fire officials, firefighters spent approximately seven hours extinguishing the combined structure, vehicle, and wildland fires.

While the investigation determined the fire originated outside the home, the exact cause could not be confirmed due to two possible ignition sources and the extent of the damage.
