Police renew appeal for information one year after Torrance homicide

Police are continuing to pursue investigative leads and are renewing their appeal for information about the death of Tyler Penasse.

Shortly after noon on Sept. 15, 2025, Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a report of a deceased person in a remote area near Hardy Lake Road in Torrance.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Tyler Penasse, also known as Tyler Pellerin-Penasse, of West Nipissing. Police deemed his death to be a homicide.

On Aug. 21, 2026, the Ontario government announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for Penasse’s death.

A billboard promoting the reward was installed the same day along Highway 17 West between Cache Bay and Verner, where it is visible to eastbound motorists.

Police said a photograph of Penasse is not being released at this time in accordance with his family’s wishes.

The investigation remains active and is being conducted by the Bracebridge OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. Investigators are working with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services as well as crime units from the North East and Central regions.

Police are asking anyone who was in the areas of Hardy Lake Road, Torrance, Bala, Wahta, or Gravenhurst between Sept. 14 and Sept. 15, 2025, to come forward if they have information that could assist the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP tip line at 1-833-941-5865, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
