The Coulson Family Bracebridge Library has been awarded a 2025 Ontario Library Association (OLA) Library Building Award.
According to officials, this award recognizes architectural excellence and outstanding contributions to library design across Ontario.
The award was presented on June 18 and celebrates projects which show innovation, sustainability, and a strong community impact through library architecture.
Officials said the Muskoka Lumber Community Center is the largest capital project in the history of Bracebridge and The Coulson Family Bracebridge Library was a collaboration with the Town of Bracebridge, Bracebridge Library, and MJMA Architecture & Design.
“The Coulson Family Bracebridge Library is a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with vision and purpose,” said Rick Maloney, Bracebridge Mayor. “This award is a proud moment for Bracebridge and a testament to the Town’s leadership in delivering transformative public spaces. It represents our commitment to investing in our community’s future, and creating places where people can connect, learn, and thrive.”
Officials said since the library opened in October 2024, they have had a large increase in visitors.
“Our vision was to create a space that is welcoming, inclusive, and unmistakably Muskoka,” said Crystal Bergstrome, CEO & Chief Librarian of the Bracebridge Library. “From the use of natural materials to the thoughtful gathering spaces, every element was designed to foster community connection and deliver on our promise to be ‘Anything but the Ordinary.”
Officials said community engagement also helped in the design of the library to make sure it would be a hub for learning, creativity and connection.
The Coulson Family Bracebridge Library is joining a select group of projects recognized for bettering the role of libraries in life.
