Community Living South Muskoka is hosting three fundraising events this summer to raise money for a new accessible van.
According to Kelly Cleland, Manager of Services & Supports at Community Living, their goal is to raise $100,000. So far, due to a successful Community Living Month in May, they’ve been able to raise $7,000.
Cleland said although there are some public transit options available in the Muskoka region, it will be ideal for them to have their own van, so they can help people attend medical appointments, social engagements, volunteering and more.
The Summer Series kicks off on July 10 with “A Night at the Hall – Dancinin’ for Diversity Fundraiser” which will be held at Bracebridge Hall at 6:00p.m.
Cleland said a group of Community Living clients who are in a band will be starting off the night with some music. A live performance by The Dunning Butchers will follow. The night will end with a DJ dance party.
On August 14, they’ll host the Country Legends Tribute Show with Gorden Cormier, at the Port Carling Community Center at 6:30p.m.
For this event, Community Living has partnered with the Rotary Club in Port Carling, as well as the community center. Cleland said that Gordon Cormier has a show filled with music, storytelling, and various instruments.
They will be closing out the Summer Series with a “Cruisin’ for Inclusion – Boat Cruise” on August 22 starting at 6:30p.m in Gravenhurst.
Cleland says the boat cruise is back by popular demand. They will be cruising Lake Muskoka on the Winonna, there will be a catered dinner, and live music by some idols including Cashe Creek.
All of the funds raised from each event will be put towards the purchase of a wheelchair accessible van.
Cleland says she is thankful for the community’s support over the years.
“Over the years, we’ve had such strong support from our community – and we continue to grow that support. Every event that we have, we see more and more people coming out, getting involved, becoming volunteer board members, donating to the agency and volunteering with the people we support,” said Cleland. “It’s very heart warming, and it reminds me (myself) why I’m here. So, I just want to thank the community, and hopefully everyone continues to support us and come out to our great events.”
