Bracebridge's mayor wants to discuss flooding issues with MNR

Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith hopes there’ll be a meeting with the MNR soon about local flooding concerns.

This week he told the Moose he and others met with the MNR’s chief of staff recently in Toronto. They followed up on a 2013 Bracebridge request for a comprehensive debriefing on what happened during the 2013 flooding in order to improve Bracebridge’s response plans moving forward. Smith says the minister seemed keen on discussing things further. A meeting is proposed between MNR and Town staff at the end of March.

Smith says Bracebridge still wants to understand what role the MNR plays in flood management and response. They also want to know what the MNR can do to make communications between agencies and the public better. The fear is that flooding might become more of a common occurrence and not a rare one.
