District adds 39 new child care spaces in Huntsville

A new centre in Huntsville has added 39 child care spaces to Muskoka.

Riverside Child Care Centre opened its doors at Chaffey Hall on Monday, with 15 slots for toddlers and 24 for preschool-aged children.

Since September, the District of Muskoka has added 136 new spaces in its borders, towards a goal of 373 by the end of 2026.

Heather Elliott, District Director of Human Services, says the centre is four years in the making, with a new operator coming on board. She adds Huntsville has been identified as a priority community, given its lower access to child care.

“An additional 103 [centre] based spaces are planned for Huntsville by December 31, 2026,” says Elliott in a release. “With each space added we are demonstrating our ongoing commitment to meeting the child care needs of Muskoka.”
